The mass transit in New York City is known as the most complex and extensive in North America. The public transit is the most popular mode of transportation in the city, more than 50% of its residents commuting to work, using mass transit.
The city's subway is the largest rapid transit system in the world, with more than 460 stations in operation, nearly all the system remaining open 24 hours a day, unlike in other cities, where the system shuts down over night.
